Juliette Binoche and her daughter arrive in a French village and open a chocolate shop during lent. This upsets the conservative village , which is further disrupted by Johnny Depp and his river travelers. This exposes the hidden fears and prejudices in the village, which Judy Dench rebels against.. This is an enjoyable film, but it does lack the depth of the original book (Joanne Harris).
