Matt Damon is a young man, who after several violent episodes is sentenced to prison, but he is discovered to have a unique mathematical gift. To stay out of prison he has to work with a maths professor and a psychiatrist. After several failed attempts with other psychiatrists he starts to work with Robin Williams. This is a voyage of discovery for both of them as Matt Damon tries to come to terms with his gift and his past history, whilst trying to have a relationship with Minnie Driver. Robin Williams gives a flat but effective performance, but the highlight of the film is Minnie Driver giving one of her best performances.
