Arthur is a Roman soldier based on Hadrians wall as the Romans are starting to withdraw and the Saxons are starting to invade. Although the set pieces are impressive and there is much attempt to keep the film accurate to the historical period, the actual story bares no relation to any of the legends of King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table or to British history.
