In the 1870's Tom Cruise is a civil war veteran who is haunted by the massacre of women and children and is recruited by his former commanding officer to train the Emperor of Japan's army to fight against a group of Samurai warriors who are resisting the growing influence of Western culture.Cruise leads an ill-fated attack on the Samurai he is captured and comes to understand the ways of the Samurai.Parts of this are very well filmed, but at over 2 1/2 hours the editing needed to be a lot tighter as some scenes that are visually good needed cutting as they add nothing to the overall film and slow the pace of the film.
