Jane Horrocks is a shy girl who impersonates old singers in her bedroom. When her mother's boyfriend (Michael Caine), a sleazy musical promoter, hears her singing, he tries to thrust her into stardom. This is a poignant northern British drama with a good performance of acting and singing from Jane Horrocks.
