Joan Plowright is an elderly widowed lady who moves into a residential hotel in London. By chance she meets young writer Rupert Friend and they strike up a friendship. This continues when she asks him to pretend to be her gandson to not lose face with the other guests. The friendship restarts his writing and indirectly into a relationship with a new girlfriend Zoe Tapper. Joan Plowright gives a wonderful performance as the widow finding a surprising friendship later in life. She is well supported by the rest of the cast, not least the other elderly residents, including an understated performance from Anna Massey.
