Three sailors on 24 hour shore leave meet up with three women in New York. The plot as is so often with musicals is nonsense, but the song and dance numbers are entertaining. The film does show its stage origins in places, but this does not detract from the performances of the 6 main characters. The opening song, New York New York sets the tone and pace of the film and the bright Technicolor dressess of the 3 leading ladies gives a visual impact. This was the first musical to be shot partially on location.
