Jim Carey is the man who finds that his life from birth is not real, but staged for a TV show that is being directed by Ed Harris. As he starts to suspect that all is not right, his "wife" (Laura Linney) and best friend (Noah Emmerich) struggle to maintain the pretence. This is a very good film that can be taken on several levels, with a strong performance from Jim Carey that is different from his usual roles and combines his comic talents (understated in this role) with a degree of pathos. Laura Linney gives a good performance as the wife and actress trying to hold it together on live TV as the plot unravels. Peter Weir does a great job of directing the reality TV show elements using unusual camera angles and editing, whilst mixing these with the real world shots and those from the directors point of view.
