Tom Cruise had his first major role in Top Gun in the 1980's and has continued to star in in a succession of commercially successful mainly action (Mission Impossible series) and drama films (The Firm). His first film role was a small part in Endless Love. His breakout role though was in Risky Business. He worked with Ridley Scott in Legend. It was though his role in Top Gun that made him into an international star. He was then in Martin Scorsese's Color Of Money. Rain Man was one of his biggest critical and commercial successes. Born on the Fourth of July was another critical success and another very different role. A Few Good Men is a military courtroom drama. The Firm is legal thriller. There then followed the first of the Mission Impossible films. The same year he also had a box office success with the romantic comedy Jerry Maguire for which he got his second Best Actor nomination.
