Leslie Nielson gained fame later in his career for his deadpan comic performance in Airplane. This was followed by the short lived TV series Police Squad, that has subsequently been recognised for its quality and then the very funny Naked Gun series of films that were spin off's of his Police Squad character. He made a significant contribution to comedy in the 1980's.
