Jason Robards had a long career in films and on television from the 1950's through to his death. He started his acting career on the stage and in some television episodes before his first film, The Journey. Long Day's Journey Into Night was Sidney Lumets adaptation of a play, whilst A Big Hand for the Little Ladyis his first western a nd a comedy western. He played Al Capone in Roger Corman's The St. Valentine's Day Massacre. He was then Doc Holliday in John Stuges's Hour of the Gun. He then appeared in Sergio Leone's western Once Upon a Time in the West. This was followe by anoth western, Sam Peckinpah's The Ballad of Cable Hogue. He gave a very different performance as Brutus in Julis Ceasar. He won the Best Supporting Actor for his role in All The President's Men. He won this again for his role in Julia. Melvin and Howard is slightly quirky comedyfor which he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. He had another good supporting role in Philadelphia. His final major part was Magnolia.
