After a wealthy magazine owner (Charles Laughton) kills a woman (Rita Johnson) who is blackmailing him he sets up his top reporter (Ray Milland) to both take the fall and investigate the stor, which is complicated because he had been out with the woman the evening she was killed. There was a sub plot of him suppose to be taking his wife (Maureen O'Sullivan) on holiday for the first time since they were married. This is a tense and well constructed thriller with a good performance from Milland as the suspect and the investigative reporter. This is not Charles Laughton's best performance but there is good support from Maureen O'Sullivan (who was married to the director).
