A man (Edmond O'Brien)and his wife (Joan Fontaine) decide to adopt a chiild, but the man that has to approve them, investigates their background and discovers that he has another wife (Ida Lupino) and child in another city where he works as a traveling salesman. The film describes in a series flash backs how he ended up in this situation. There are good performances from both Joan Fontaine and Ida Lupino as the two women unknowingly married to the same man. This is unusal for the time in that Ida Lupino stared and directed this film.
