Philo Vance (Basil Rathbone) investigates when a man nicknamed cock robin is shot with an arrow and bishop chess piece is left at the scene. This early sound film suffers from the limitations of early sound technology making it all very static, although are a few well construced shots. Interestingly Basil Rathbone is referred to as Sherlock Holmes several times, a role he was to play later in a series of films.
