A wealthy business man (Broderick Crawford) arrives in Washington with his long time girl friend (Judy Holliday) in an attempt to do business with a corrupt senator. She is an ex-show girl and rough round the edges, so he hires a man (William Holden) to tutor her. As she starts reading and getting an education she begins to realise her boyfriend is vicious and corrupt whilst falling in love with the man employed to teach her. Judy Holiday is good in the lead though it gets a bit bogged down in places discussing the American governmental system.
