John Wayne plays Temujin who become Genghis Khan. John Wayne is badly cast, he was a geat cowboy but not a great Gengis Khan. It is a technicolour epic with battles and costumes, but is basically a western set in Mongolia and suffers for that. Susan Hayward does what she can with the material as the woman from another tribe captured by John Wayne. Howard Hughes influence at RKO can be seen in the scenes of scantilly clad dancing girls. The film was shot on a former atom bomb testing site and the film later became infamous as nearly half the cast and crew died of cancer.
