A businessman takes in a washed up alcoholic actress. As she sobers up, he breaks up with his girlfriend and arranges to stage a play for her to take the lead in. Complications arise when he discovers she is already married. The basic plot is not very believable and the ending is all very melodramatic. The film though is made by the Oscar wining performance from Bette Davis as she goes through a range of emotions. This was the first film where she cut her hair to a shorter bob style that continued for the rest of her career.
