A giant sphere lands in New York out of which comes an alien life form and a giant robot. The alien life form is shot but is tended by Jennifer Connelly. The life form evolves into Keanu Reeves who is on a mission to save the world from humans, unless Jennifer Connelly can convince him otherwise. This film gets lost between an end of the world sci-fi film and a philosophical comment on humanities effect on the world. There is little in the way of suspense or plot twists and there is little development of the characters. It lacks the impact associated with the 1951 version in the aftermath of the second world war and in the middle of the cold war.
