A woman unhappily married to a naval commander who is jealous of every man she meets. When he suspects her of having an affair with one of his submarine offices, he plots his revenge. Charles Laughton gives a powerful performance in this his first Hollywood film. Tallulah Bankhead gives a strong, emotional performance in one of her few films This is not thogh one of Gary Cooper's better performances. The plot is not convincing in places and it is not clear why British and Americans are on the same submarine.
