Comment/Synopsis

In the middle of the 19th century a young God fearing farmer's daughter (Gene Tierney) gets the job as governess in the castle of a distant relation (Vincent Price). She falls in love and then marries him, but their different views and cultures cause them to clash as his unstable personality comes more to the fore. The story is Gothic, with a young woman, an older man with a dead former wife and a sprawling mansion. Think the style of a plot like Rebecca. Gene Tierney brings an innocent charm to her role and Vincent Price is suitabley creepy as the wealthy land owner.
