Towards the end of the 18th centry Keira Knightley becomes the Duchess of Devonshire when she marries the Duke (Ralph Fiennes). She is unable to produce an heir and he starts having affairs including with her friend Bess (Hayley Atwell), but he refuses to let her go and they end up with the three of them living under the same roof. Keira Knightly then starts an affair with Dominic Cooper who is Charles Grey, the future Prime Minister. This is a good portrayal of the pressures on women in Georgian society, with Kiera Knightly's character trying to come to terms with her situation, her fame and her influence. This is a visually impressive production of this period in history and Keira Knightly gives a strong performance in the lead role.
