Comment/Synopsis

At the end of the 19th century John Hurt plays the physically deformed John Merrick who is rescued from a freak show, taken to live in a London hospital by Anthony Hopkins and becomes part of society. This is a moving film, not least due to the sympathetic performance by John Hurt and the atmospheric filming from David Lynch, which he shot in black and white in a 1940s style. This is an adaptation real life events in Victorian England.
