When a young man (Louis Hayward) turns 21, he is told by his mother (Pauline Lord) that she is not his real mother and she gives him money to make his way in the world. He find out who is real mother (Billie Burke) is and becomes her lodger. He falls in love with her step daughter (Wendy Barrie) despite the girl who was his first love (Nydia Westman) still loving him. The script is not great, but there are good performances from Pauline Lord, Billie Burke and Wendy Barrie. There is good support from Basil Rathbone and a minor role from David Niven.
