When a strange planet is on collision course with earth, Flash Gordon, Dale Arden and Dr Zarkov fly to the planet to stop the evil emporoer Ming from destrying earth and have a series of adventures with the local inhabitants involving politics and romance. This was one of the classic sci-fi serials of the time, with its 13 episodes all having cliff hanger endings. Buster Crabbe has the action scenes but is not a great actor, Jean Rogers just stands there, looks frightened, screams and faints. Pricilla Lawson has more to work with as the Pricess Aura character who plays everybody off against each other for her own ends, but the best fun is from Jack Lipson as the king of the hawk people. These were made using exising Universal film sets which gives the series a big feel and set a tone for later sci-fi films.
