Two men are in love with a woman. One goes off to the WW1 front and the other stays as a doctor to children. she marries the one who goes to the front even though she does not love him as she thinks the other a coward. when her husband is declared dead she decides to marry the other but he is not dead and turns up at the engagement party disfigured. This is Cecil B DeMille's attempt at World War 1 propaganda comparing the the war front and the home front, but gets bogged down in the melodrama of the relationships and Gloria Swanson's somewhat fickle character.
