A woman (Barbara Stanwyck) meets and falls in love with a man whilst on holiday, she splits up with him when she discovers he is married, but she is pregnant with his baby, which he later adopts. Their paths keep crossing as he rises up the political ladder. Whilst it touches on themes like unmarried mothers, adultery, working mothers, none of these are really adressed properly and so it ends as more melodrama than social commentary. The performance of Barbara Stanwyck is the best with good support from Adolphe Menjou but Ralph Bellamy is over the top. Notable for being written, directed and produced by Frank Capra.
