Comment/Synopsis
This early black and white, silent, short is credited as the first horror film. It is very loosely based on the Mary Shelly characters. Frankenstein creates a monster instead of the perfect human who confronts his fiancee on their wedding day. On one level this is not a great film, it is filmed off a static camera and the story does not flow well but it is visually impressive for the ime and it is significant as the first horror film even if later films by Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney are better known. It is also notable as the monster is created from chemicals rather than from body parts as in later films
