A woman who is looking to find meaning in life meets up witth a monk who has fled from the monastry he was in, in a small town on the edge of the desert. As their love develops all seems well until his past is uncovered. This is a well produced film in early technicolor with a good performance from the elegant and sultry Marlene Dietrich and well supported by Charles Boyer. There is also a good performance from Basil Rathbone but he clashed with producer David O Selznick and they never worked together again.
