Comment/Synopsis

A man jilted by his fiancé, turns to drink, but meets a shop girl, they marry and he sobers her up. Their relationship is challenged when the ex-fiancé reappears. Although Bette Davis marries him for convenience, she fights for him as Katharine Alexander wants him back, but Bette Davis is conscious of the difference in their social class, though their landlady (Alison Skipworth) helps her to become more respectable. There is a good performance from Bette Davis particularly the scene in the posh restaurant. The film is based on the 1914 play Outcast.
