Comment
A scientist is mocked when he suggested a manned flight to the moon, but years later he gets the opportunity to go to the moon whan another man builds a rocket based on his designs to find gold on the moon This is Fritz Lang's classic sci-fi film and has a the range of plot ideas that have been used in space films ever since. Mis-understood scientist, adventurer, female love interest, sabatarge and some has to be left behind. On the critical side the film is long and slow in places and some of the science is wrong, but then how many modern space films use faster than light drives. On the positive side 40 years before man went to the moon, Lang has has a multi stage rocket build vertical and rolled out on a giant gantry that looks similar to the Apollo missions. The first half of the film has the big set piece scenes that Ftritz Lang did so weel and the second half is more plot driven by the characters. Well worth watching if you are interested in early sci-fi / space films.
