Comment/Synopsis

This is Charles Chaplin's classic political satire on Hitler and his rise to power and oppression of the Jews. Chaplin plays both the dictator and also a Jewish baraber who gets dragged into the politics and war. This is a mix of satire, comedy and political and social statement. It was filmed in 1939/1940 before the full horror of Hitler became apparent in America.
