With the family bankrupt one brother falsely accuses the other brother of murdering their father so he can inherit the house , but things do not go to plan and revenge can be a long time coming. This thriller / mystery has a well developed plot and good performances from George Sanders, VIncent Price and Margaret Lindsay. George Sanders is the emotionless brother just interested in the money that is rumoured to be hidden in the house. Vincent PRice is the brother wrongly convicted of murder who after 20 years in prison plots revenge and Margaret Lindsay is the young woman in love with Vincent Price who stays faithful to him as she becomes an old reclusive spinster. Ther is good support from Nan Grey as the young relative who comes to live with Margaret Lindsay. THis was VIncent Price's fisrt film in a more Gothic style.
