Wendy Hiller goes from London to a Scottish island to marry her rich fiance. However she gets stuck on the neighbouring island where she falls for the local Laird. SHe is only marrying for money as her fiance is a wealthy industrialist, but she gradually falls for the charms of the local laid who is back on leave from the navy. This is a well produced and scripted film from Powell and Pressburger that gives an idealised vision of Scotland that never really existed. It was the first of their films that had a woman as the main central character.
