American missionaries on a South Sea island come into conflict with a local girl and a beachcomber when trying to impose their ideas upon the natives. This is not the best of D W Griffth's films, not least because of its dubious ethical and racial overtones. Clarine Seymour gives a mixed performance, but it is her performance that carries the film.
