An elderly man is about to die so his son asks an unknown woman (Deanna Durbin) to pretend to be his fiancée to make the man's last hours happy. However things get complicated when he does not die, the real fiancée arrives and the man and the woman fall in love with each other. This is one of Deanna Durbn's more dramatic roles though she does sing one number.
