Two hit men are surprised when their hit (John Cassavetes) just stands there and lets them kill him. His story is told in flash backs from people he was involved with. He was a racing driver who gets involved with a woman (Angie Dickinson), has an accident and then she persuades him to be the getaway driver in a robbery. Lee Marvin is top billed, but it is not his best performance. The best performance comes from Angie Dickinson as the scheming feme fatal. What is surprising is that Ronald Reagan has little presence on-screen despite going on to be president of America. This is a remake of the 1946 version with Burt Lancaster and Ava Gardner. the film is based on a story by Ernest Hemingway.
