Three women share a flat in Budapest and aspire to love happiness, however although they meet gentlemen their lives do not go smoothly. Janet Gaynor is a street seller who has an on/off relationship with a doctor (Don Ameche) whilst being valet to Alan Mowbray, Loretta Young is interested in Tyrone Power and Constance Bennett has an affair with rich Paul Lukas which is complicated by the arrival of the young distant relative Simone Simon. The weakness of the film is plot which is weak in parts, but the strength is from the performances of the three female lead characters. Janet Gaynor gives a good energetic perky performance and both Loretta Young and Constance Bennett bring elegance and a sense of vulnerability. The film has the feel of the studio wanting a film to showcase their stars, but the poor plot lets it down and Simone Simon plays a character that is still at school yet maries a much older man despite the alternative of Constance Bennett which is strange to modern audiences.
