Jane Horrocks is a shy girl who impersonates old singers in her bedroom. When her mother's boyfriend (Michael Caine), a sleazy musical promoter, hears her singing, he tries to thrust her into stardom. This is a poignant working class British drama. There are good performances from Brenda Blethyn and Ewan McGregor though the stand out performance is the acting and singing from Jane Horrocks.
