A sailor who is accused of cowardice he goes off to south-east Asia to try and redeem himself in this adaptation of the Joseph Conrad novel. It deals with guilt, redemption, justice and revenge. Whilst much of the film is around his gun running exploits it does explore some of his inner turmoil. It is a worthy adaptaion, but it does end up being overlong which detracts from the overall experience of the film. Peter O'Toole gives a good performance in the lead role.
