A woman (Phyllis Calvert) who is raped as a child develops two separate characters as an adult. In one life she was married to a wealthy man and had a daughter (Patricia Roc) and in the other she is the lover to a criminal. In one life she has no memory of her other life as she disappears for years from to the other life. When she disappears again, her daughter goes in search of her and eventually her two worlds collide with tragic consequences. Although Phyliis Calvert plays the mother of Patricia Roc they were actully the same age. This was one of the better Gainsborough Pictures films.
