Comment/Synopsis

Herman Mankiewicz writes the screenplay for Orsen Welles's Citizen Kane. This covers some of his writing the screenplay with flash backs to his earlier work with William Hurst and L B Mayer. The film explores some of the background to the sceenplay for the film and sets it against the charcaters and politics in Hollywood and California during the 1930's. Gary Oldman gives a good performance as Herman Mankiewicz with good support from Amanda Seyfried as the actress Marion Davis who was married to William Hearst and Lily Collins as his secretary.
