In the coal mines of 1870's Pensylvania a group of Irish miners have a campaign of sabotage and killing against the miner owners who send a man (Richard Harris) undercover to find the leader (Sean Connery) and put a stop to their activities. There are good performances from Sean Connery and Richard Harris with good support from Samantha Eggar as Richard Harris's landlady. There is a mix of unions, politics, nationality and romance set against the historical reality of the harships of the miners depicted. Whilst the production is good, it would have benefited from some harder editing to reduce the 2 hour run time.
