A man (Gary Merrill) decides to leave his unfaithful wife (Helen Westcott) and gets on a plane to Los Angeles. The plane is forced to land part way and he gets to know three other passangers (Shelly Winters, Michael Rennie, Keenan Wynn). The plane crashes before it arrives at its desination. He survives and he then visits the familes (Bette Davis, Beatrice Straight, Craig Stevens) of the other three people he met. The film tells three unrelated stories, with Gary Merrill taking on the role of mending family relationships. Gary Merrill is very deadpan as the lawyer, whilst Shelley Winters brings humour and glamour and though Bette Davis only has a small part, but her class shows through.
