A young woman (Judy Garland) dreams about a famous pirate, but is engaged to a local nobleman (Walter Slezak). The leader (Gene Kelly) of a group of travelling players takes a fancy to the woman and pretends to be the pirate. The plot is nonsense, but this is an entertaining vehicle for the comic situations plus the song and dance talents of Judy Garland and Gene Kelly. The songs were written by Cole Porter.
