This is MGM's lavish version of Christians under the rule of Nero in Rome. The film revolves around Robert Taylor as the Roman soldier and Deborah Kerr as the Christian slave as they develop a relationship and he see the Christian faith. In parts this is long and preachy, but it is also visually impressive with hugh sets, vast crowd scenes and wonderful colours. It is however the performance of Peter Ustinov as Nero that is the best in the film and one that he got an Oscar nomination for.
