A bride is raped and her hasband is killed in a forrest. The different witnessess to the events tell their version of what happened from their point of view. Superficially all the stories seem to describe the same event, but each person adds their own slant that makes them appear in the best light. Akira Kurosawa explores what is truth and fact, what is memory and perception and leaves a whole dgree of ambiguity in this influencial Japanese film. The film is beautifully shot in black and white. There are no big scenes, just mainly close ups of the various characters. The film was very influencial in movie making and is credited with starting the "New Wave" of cinema. The term Rashomon is now used to describe a story told from different points of view.
