Joan Fontaine is the young bride who lives under the shadow of her husband's (Laurence Olivier) first wife, who died in mysterious circumstances. This is a good adaptation of the Daphne Du Maurier book with Alfred Hitchcock building the sense of forboding that Joan Fontaine feels as she intimidated by Judith Anderson as Mrs Danvers the housekeeper. This version is still one of the best adaptaions of the book.
