A woman (Jessie Matthews) working and living on a Thames barge has a chance meeting with an eccentric millionaire (Roland Young) who offeres to help her realise her dream of singing and dancing on the stage. As with many musicals, the plot is very thin, but there is a light humour and some good dance routines (both tap and ballet). It is however Jessie Matthews who carries the film with her easy going charm and smile as she moves between life on a barge, society and the theatre.
