Comment/Synopsis

A Hanoverian princess (Joan Greenwood) is married off for political gain and not love, but falls in love with a Swedish count and soldier (Stewart Granger), but court and international politics plus his former lover (Flora Robson) create problems. This historical drama was Ealing Studio's first colour film and it makes good use of the Technicolor process. There are good performances from Joan Greenwood and Flora Robson though Stewart Granger is a little too stiff and staid for the centre of a love triangle.
