An explorer (Peter Cushing), his valet (Bernard Cribbins) and his friend (John Richardson) are in east Africa when the friend is given a map to a fabled city by a mysterious woman. After various adventures they arrive at the city with the help of a local woman (Rosenda Monteros) only to find that one of them is thought to be the incarnation of the High Priest of Isis and the queen (Ursula Andress) is immortal. The plot roughly follows the novel but the pace of the film is variable with parts of the first half dragging. The second half revolves more around the character of Ursula Andress, who, whilst not a great actress does bring her beauty to the film and some impressive outfits. Her voice was dubbed by Nikki Van der Zyl who also dubbed her voice in Dr No. It was though one of Hammer Films more successful films.
